Celebrating Seniors!

Celebrating Seniors!

October 1st is right around the corner. Who will be celebrating? October 1 is a national day to celebrate seniors in Canada! It is designated as an occasion for all Canadians to appreciate and celebrate older adults! The intent of National Seniors Day is to showcase the contribution seniors make to Canadian society and the Canadian economy.  “seniors contribute in many ways, including by sharing their experiences, expertise, and knowledge with other generations...The contribution of seniors is invaluable and ongoing.” I totally agree! As one who works with older adults, I am inspired daily and grateful for their past and ongoing contribution.  Check back here for events happening throughout the Greater Vancouver area. How to prepare? Check out Seniors Canada Facebook page, a great resource for all things seniors related!  The photo is of my dad and I at HELM Lodge, Sasamat Outdoor Centre in Belcarra.  I’ll be celebrating my dad, Elmer Helm. He was the first Executive Director of Association of Neighbourhood Houses BC  and spearheaded acquiring the land for the community camp. When he retired, they named the Lodge after him, recognizing his contribution to the community. Who will you be celebrating?
