Seniors Moving Closer to Children and Grandchildren

Does distance really make the heart grow fonder? Your children have moved outside the city for affordable square footage, and all that suburban living offers, including wide-open spaces and a relaxed, quieter lifestyle. They have planted new roots, so do you follow? Moving to a new community and a home to be closer to children and grandchildren is an opportunity more seniors are taking advantage of. There is research on how grandparent involvement benefits parents and how the relationship benefits children and grandchildren. Also, their current home doesn’t fit their lifestyle anymore. They don’t need to be near schools, don’t need the large home and ongoing maintenance, once neighbors and friends have also moved away, so their once beloved neighborhood just isn’t the same. The location of their home may not convenient as one can't easily walk or take transit. Moving closer to one's children and grandchildren is a big decision and there are aspects to carefully consider including change of routine, possibly retaining a new doctor, making new friends, finding social groups within the community, so for some, it would be difficult or not an option. For others, an ideal opportunity. Are you or someone you know considering making a move closer to children and grandchildren? Ask for my list of questions and considerations as well as many resources for seniors to help guide you to decide if the move is right for you. Looking for specific information on popular and growing communities including Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge, two very popular communities attracting young couples and families, just ask.
