Does he know how hip he is wearing a vintage Hawaiin shirt and cargo khakis? Probably! Is it his sense of style, love for life, genes, healthy diet, daily exercise, positive attitude contributing factors to my dad aging actively at 95? Absolutely, however, I do believe (and facts show) his active social life is what also keeps him healthy mentally and physically. Every day he goes to Delbrook Rec Centre to exercise, and chat with friends, then off to McDonald's to grab a coffee before he heads to the beach to enjoy his coffee and catch up with more friends. Every Tuesday is happy hour with another group of his friends who since covid continue to meet via zoom! Activities including volunteering, taking up a hobby, and social media are all ways people can remain socially active and connected. The Canadian government website is a great resource if you or someone you know is looking for resources to help age actively. Looking for more resources for seniors, from tips and suggestions to help seniors age actively in their homes, tips on how as adult children we can help vs interfere, or if it’s time to move and you need resources- companies that will help declutter and pack?
